November 2018 training videos

Ian Sweet, Trout Unlimited member and accomplished videographer, was kind enough to record many segments of our November 2018 TIC training workshop and produce a series of videos based on the footage.

TIC Lead Facilitator Joe Mark provides a brief overview of the six-month long TIC project.

In this second video, Roxbury Hatchery Manager Jeremy Whalen describes what happens at the hatchery, including how trout are spawned and the process for creating “triploid” eggs.

Bob Wible, TIC liaison for Central Vermont, demonstrates how to arrange and configure the various pieces of equipment needed for the TIC set-up. Joe Mark, offers a few other tips and suggestions for tank set-up and management.

Robb Cramer, former TIC liaison for the Greater Upper Valley TU chapter and professor at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine, explains water chemistry, the basics of the nitrogen cycle, and the pre-cycling process. (This video was updated in October 2022.)

Joe Mark describes “March Madness,” that period of the TIC program when fish have run out of the nourishment they had in their yolk sac and will be need to be fed. It’s a tricky and critical phase of the project.
